How to Mute Canyon Home UPS (Black Box)

Purpose: During a power outage, the Canyon Home IT equipment will be powered by the UPS. To alert residents that it's running on battery power, the UPS will sound off an alarm for an extended period. This document shows you how to mute the UPS for the duration of the power outage.


Note: Please make sure you only mute the UPS, not power it off, as that will cause network issues when power is restored. If at any point you need assistance when handling the UPS, please contact the IT Service Desk at servicedesk@masters.edu or by calling 661-362-2876.


I. Tripp Lite Model

  1. Briefly press the “Mute” button on the right of the “Tripp-Lite” logo. This will temporarily mute the UPS alarm. 



II. APC UPS Model

  1. Press and hold the power button for about 2 seconds. This will temporarily mute the alarm without powering off the UPS.
